[Leadership session research presentation] The proposed project is a preceonceptual/prenatal health fair. The goal is to improve maternal/child health in the local community through health education and screening. The project involves collaboration among a universities nursing and health departments, a local hospital, and the Nurse Family Partnership. The leadership challenge is to obtain funding and support for this project to achieve health promotion goals and to demonstrate that collaborative health education and screening programs can measurably improve health outcomes in the local community. Additional challenges include managing the interdisciplinary team, keeping on task and meeting deadlines, and developing a mechanism to effectively measure impact of the program on health outcomes. Nursing and health education students will be involved in planning, implementing and evaluating the program. The health fair is targeted to women planning a pregnancy, expectant families, grandparents, and support persons.
