[Scientific session research presentation] HIV and AIDS stigma is a severe problem in the field of HIV/AIDS care in Africa, limiting access to testing, treatment and care, and decreasing support and quality of life. In this paper the main results of a qualitative study involving 43 focus groups with 251 participants in five Africa countries are described including the types of stigma described, and the results of the stigma. A conceptual model based on the results of the study will be dealt with briefly.
