The objective for this presentation is for the learner to have a basic understanding of the benefits that virtual monitoring can provide for the vulnerable elderly person's in the community, as an alternative to institutionalization. Secondly the learner will have an understanding of the potential benefits of medical monitoring in the home for the elderly, especially in rural and outreach communities. The purpose is to provide an overview of the capabilities that virtual monitoring and current technology can offer. Nurses need to partner with other health care providers and agencies to provide virtual nursing assessments in the home. We, as nurses, must step up and use all the available resources for information and technology to provide services to vulnerable populations in the community, if we do not do this others will be standing in line.
