[Clinical session research presentation] The advanced practice role is the result of an evolution of a nursing worldwide revolution. Almost fifty nations currently have, or are developing new models of advanced practice nursing. In developing any new role leadership skills and support are of up most importance to the successful implementation of the role. This paper will focus on the leadership skills necessary for the implementation of advanced roles and the value of a collaborative worldwide approach. The emphasis will be on the development of leadership skills, collaboration and worldwide networking to achieve goals. There have been striking similarities and differences in the progression of expanded practice roles in the countries.  By sharing collective knowledge, strategies for success have been developed.  The nurse practitioners developed a collective vision and learned that there was power in numbers and strength in collaboration. In essence they learned a more efficient way to move along and achieve their goals.  Nurse practitioners from many countries and nations have come together and have developed a framework for global international collaboration and mentoring. The presentation is a snapshot of the evolution of this revolution.
