The uses of the portfolio as a tool for furthering the professional career manifests itself by nurses documenting in it their professional work and skills, and use it to present and market themselves. In recent years, the portfolio has been employed extensively in nursing but only on the personal level. Expanding the use of a portfolio will be also beneficial in a collective level, by creating a departmental portfolio. The main objective of the departmental portfolio is to serve as a managerial tool. It will help to collect valuable data on the department, Periodical reviews of the departmental portfolio will allow the managerial staff to evaluate and examine the progress towards set aims, in so, enabling to form an annual work plan and assist in professional development of the department. The departmental portfolio consists of several chapters: It begins with a professional presentation of the department, including its nursing worldview. It describe the work related to the development of the staff and education in service, and coordinate actions designed to further the nursing care, and depict the achievements of the department in fields such as service, research, publication, and more. Each activity accompanied by helping pages related to the process and its influence on the advance of the nursing team. A project based on the departmental portfolio plan is presently being carried out in few of the hospital departments as well as in the nursing management department. In the conference we will present the process of building departmental portfolio, along with descriptions of its managerial implication.
