[22nd International Nursing Research Congress - Evidence-based Practice Presentation] In the past, hospitals have used both disposal and reusable blood pressure cuffs for patient care. This process is costly and leads to fragmentation in the system. In 2009, one hospital spent $380,000 on disposable blood pressure cuffs. Identifying this as a problem, the director of value analysis submitted the issue to the nursing practice congress, within the institution, for resolution. The congress voted to accept the opportunity to resolve the issue. Utilizing evidenced based nursing concepts, a staff nurse congressional representative coordinated a collaborative and interdisciplinary team to answer the question: ?Can the hospital incorporate re-usable blood pressure cuffs in the place of disposable cuffs?? The answer has a potential to save the hospital over $250,000 dollars, support evidenced based practice and streamline care across the continuum.
