This presentation is aimed at teacher and student nurses, to show the psychoactive substances use and needs of mental health in the students in the health?s faculty, who in future will be in charge of developing prevention in mental health in the community.
Methods:  
Descriptive study of cross section, it was carried out a probability sampling on conglomerates. The size of the sample was calculated by an academic program with a frequency consumption of psychoactive substances estimated on 2% percent, a standard error of 0.5%, and a confidence rate of about 95% percent. It was used the questionnaire "risk factors and protection for drug use in young people" developed by Varela M.T. and the contributors of the Investigation Group Psychology, health and Quality of Life of the Pontificia University Javeriana Cali (Colombia). 
Results: 
 the sample size was 995 students of the health?s faculty belong to the University of Santander, enrolled in the second period academic 2010 (Bucaramanga, Colombia), 76.71% are women, median age was 21 years old; 75.7% currently, consume alcohol and 31.74% are smoke, 8.1% consume marihuana, 6.8% hallucinogen and less than 2% consume opiates and cocaine. The consume of each substance was higher in men than women, statistically significant difference. Additionally, 62.9% consume in bares, 78.55% with brother or family. The sensations increment (50.82%) and curiosity (29.26%) are the main reasons for consumption.
Conclusion: 
it is necessary to strengthen education about this subject especially in the students of the health?s faculty university, by implementing in the curriculum talks of mental health with the aim of preventing in future that the prevalence of consumption increase and this may cause university desertion, family problems, socioeconomic conflicts, and moral troubles.
