The purpose of the study is to develop an understanding of how community-based care can encourage people living with HIV/AIDS to disclose their status and reduce stigma of the disease. A qualitative action research design, which is exploratory, descriptive and contextual will be utilized to capture the experiences of PLWHA, community members, family members of PLWHA, adult children of PLWHA, and family members of people that died of AIDS. In-depth interviews will be conducted with PLWHA. Focus group interviews will be conducted with family members of PLWHA, adult children of PLWHA, family members of people that died of AIDS and community members. Data will be analysed using the editing analysis style whereby data from notes and interviews will be transcribed verbatim, checked, corrected and organized into personal analytical logs. The Atlas computer software program will also be used. The researcher will review the data and identify common patterns and structures relating to the topic. These patterns and structures will be categorized into themes with corresponding codes and supported by segments of the transcript or notes. The ultimate goal of qualitative data analysis is development of a model which will be achieved through recontextualisation.
