The primary purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between depression and overweight in 20 elementary school children (fourth and fifth graders), and to test the effectiveness of participation in a school-based program of physical activity by comparing pre- and post-intervention scores on the Well-Being Picture Scale and the Child Depression Index. Overweight was established through measurements of height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure, and waist circumference. A secondary purpose of the study was to establish the correlation between the scores on the two instruments.
