Professional nursing organizations and nursing leaders are unified in their commitment to enhance the evidentiary base for nursing. Through dedicated efforts to bridge the research-practice gap in clinical settings, organizational leaders may identify related and relevant aspects of an education-practice gap that challenge nurses’ abilities to translate research into practice. Selected findings and experiences from participants in a multi-site research project promoting research utilization will be shared as they relate to meeting the challenges of providing nurses at all levels the skills and resources they need to appraise, synthesize and incorporate the best evidence into clinical nursing practice. Discussion of strategies to enhance core research-related competencies will be discussed.
