[2nd International Nursing Research Conference for the World Academy of Nursing Science - Presentation] Introduction: I ssues relating to the environment, characterized by progressive environmental degradation, severely affect the health of people, deteriorating living conditions of populations. We note a growing interrelationship between environment, health and education, involving actions of professionals from various fields, especially health.
Objective: In this study sought to verify the perception of nursing students on the importance of the environment on health.
Method: This descriptive and transversal study, with qualitative approach, used method of Minayo to analyze the material from interviews with undergraduates. Based on the assumptions of general systems theory of Ludwig von Bertalanffy, the analysis was guided by the systemic vision, including environment, health and environmental education.
Results: The material collected revealed the following categories: environmental awareness, environmental influences on health, attitudes and educational actions and professional training, allowing verifying the concepts of interrelationship and interdependence relating to environment, health and education.
Conclusion: The perception of nursing students about the importance of the environment on health is dichotomized, and the awareness of environmental problems can be achieved through an effective environmental education.
