[Research Paper or Poster Presentation] Background: Aerobic literally means in the presence of oxygen, sometimes it is also known as cardiovascular exercises. However the benefits do not limit to cardiac. Every individual need certain amount of aerobic exercises to attain optimal health. Aerobics amplifies strength, flexibility, and endurance. Thus increased incidence of obesity along with obesity-related diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, congestive heart failure, and stroke in Pakistan, highlights the importance of aerobics exercises among adults in Pakistan. Purpose: The aim of the study was to explore the prevailing attitudes and awareness of aerobics among people of Karachi. Design: A descriptive cross-Sectional design was used with a purposive sampling. This study took place at the garden community located in Karachi. Participants were recruited on the basis of inclusion criteria that is only those participants were included who gave the written and oral consent and were 30 years and above. Trained fourth year nursing students interviewed the participants (n=100) using pre tested and validated questionnaire. Data was analyzed by using SPSS. Result: Analysis of data showed that 55% people are living sedentary lifestyle. 49% participants that do not perform any exercise, only 46% do walking. However they do not consider it as aerobics. Further analysis showed that almost 36 % reported that they never get tired, 64% get tired after doing exercises. Conclusion: Aerobic exercises improve daily functioning, decrease discomfort and enhance overall quality of life. Even though awareness programs have developed the understanding of benefits regarding exercises but still this knowledge is not depicted in the attitude and practice of people in Pakistan. Here community nurse can play very important role by working on behavior modification in the community. Further researches could be done to identify the way to combat the barriers that deviate people from aerobic exercises.
