Accepting the fact that teaching nursing history is fundamental to undergraduate students, and that how its contents is communicated is what will or will not create the desired adherence to this knowledge, this study which is connected to the Group of Studies on History of Nursing Body of Knowledge intends to establish a network of all nursing schools of Santa Catarina ? Brazil to diagnose the current situation of the teaching of nursing history, from which diagnostic a policy to reformulate this course may be originated, respecting the needs of Santa Catarina - Brazil. Analyse based on the curriculum of the course how these contents is offered, its weak points and strengths of each program. The applied methodology is qualitative and initial data collection from 15 schools identified the development of this course throughout the whole undergraduate course. An initial analysis indicates the diversity of educational strategies and courses structures. An improvement related to the length of the courses and the learning and teaching strategies can be noticed, but it still misses a collective reflection over the importance of the contents of this course. Key words: teaching, nursing history, nursing
