[2nd International Nursing Research Conference for the World Academy of Nursing Science - Presentation] Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore health knowledge, and health behavior and health service need of North Korean defectors. Method: 410 North Korean defectors living in Seoul were selected using a snow ball sampling method. Health knowledge and health behavior of the subjects were investigated using a tool revised by the authors based on previous studies. Health service need was identified by questionnaire. Health knowledge and health behavior were presented as mean and standard deviation, and health service need was presented as frequency and percentage. Difference of health knowledge and health behavior by socio-demographic characteristics was analyzed by t-test and ANOVA. Results: Health knowledge of North Korean defectors was medium level and knowledge related to health promotion was the highest followed by knowledge related to adult health, knowledge related to cancer and knowledge related to venereal diseases. Health behavior of North Korean defectors was medium level and that of spiritual maturity was the highest followed by interpersonal relationship, nutrition/diet, stress management, physical activity/exercise, and responsibility for health. Health knowledge and health behavior were different by age, sex, education, occupation and the duration of living in South Korea.
