[Research Presentation] Objective: To develop a clinical nursing practice guideline by using evidence-based for total hip arthroplasty patients. Material & Methods: The reviewers determined the objective of study related to nursing care for total hip arthroplasty patients. We searched research studies and expert opinions from journals, thesisesá andá electronic databasedáfrom MEDLINE, PubMed, Cochrane Library, CINAHL, Ovid, EBSCO's databases, and google.com. Between 1992-2005, their were 20 research articles and 20 expert opinions were eligibled. The clinical nursing practice guideline (CNPG) was developed by using evidence-based throughout the care continuum from preoperative assessment through post-operative care and subsequent rehabilitation. Then, it was validated by experts and nurse practitioners. The CNPG was adjusted, according to their suggestions.áResults: The CNPG was implemented in an orthopaedic ward. The sample was 19 patients. The mean age was 70 years with a rangeá ofá 40-89 years. The majority was diagnosedá for fracture neck of femur (68.4%). Approximately, 79% had pre-existing medical problems, which were hypertension (63.2%) and DM (21.1%). The mean length of stay and post-operative stay were 9.2 and 5.8 days respectively. They all had no post-operative complication. Conclusion: The results supportedáthat the use of the CNPG could provide quality nursing care for total hip arthroplasty patients and could prevent post-operative complications.
