[Research Paper or Poster Presentation] Aim: To increase patient-oriented and nursing staff-oriented satisfactory scores on nursing instruction for total knee arthroplasty. Methods: An educational program, including instructional pictures, and DVD is conducted on 39 patient who underwent total knee arthroplasty, while another educational program is conducted on 18 nursing personnel of a regional hospital of south Taiwan. The questionnaire was obtained to evaluate the effect of those educational programs on nursing instruction before and after the education program. This questionnaires was developed based on 5 point Liker type scale, which was validified with the content validity index of 0.86. Results: By the way of instruction picture and DVD, the satisfactory scores of patients for pre-operative nursing instruction for TKA increased from 2.19 to 4.30. On the other side, the nursing staff oriented satisfactory scores on pre-operative nursing instruction for TKA increased from 3.29 to 4.46. Conclusion: Through those educational programs, we practice a complete pre-operative nursing instruction for TKA, and thus provide a consistent as well as complete instruction content.
