[Research Paper or Poster Presentation] Objectives To explore the lived experiences of parents of children under 10 years living in Karachi, Pakistan. Design: A phenomenological qualitative study approach was used. A quantitative tool was utilized to validate the data. Method :Two focus group discussions were conducted separately for mothers and fathers using a semi structured questionnaire. Samples: The samples were purposively selected and written consent was taken. The focus group for mothers consisted of 5 members whereas fathers' group included 3 members. Our inclusion criterion was both parents of children under the age of 10 years living in Karachi Pakistan. Result: Three themes emerged including parenthood, childhood and parent-child interaction. These themes are further divided into categories. Parenthood includes preparation for parenthood, parental challenges and personal life affecting parental life. The categories under the umbrella of childhood are children demands and expectations and managing time and routine. Finally, parent-child interaction includes shaping and disciplining the behavior and parent's appreciation for children's constructive behaviors. Conclusion: The results show that parents were highly concerned for their children's behavior, daily routine and challenges faced by them. Furthermore, children are over burdened due to the present curriculum making their demands more challenging. As a result of increased children's demands and increased parental challenges, parenting styles are inappropriately affecting. Recommendations: The health care professional should address parental issues promptly. Besides, health care professionals should collaborate with teachers and religious leaders to educate to them to enhance child development effectively. In addition, media should play an active role in promoting healthy parenting. Limitations: Due to cultural constraints separate focus group discussion for fathers and mothers were conducted.
