This presentation focuses on the role of HIPPAA privacy regulations, which became effective on April 14, 2003 and its impact on the conduct of nursing research.  The use of expedited review  to foster  timely implementation of a research plan will be highlighted.  IRB issues specific to research being conducted by nurse researchers, staff nurses and nursing students were discussed.
