Abstract:
The Seton 1 TCAB Story Continued
Conference Sponsor:Sigma Theta Tau International
Conference Year:2007
Author:Creery, Sarah, RN
P.I. Institution Name:Our Lady of Lourdes Memorial Hospital, Inc
Title:Staff Nurse
[Symposium Presentation] Seton 1, a cardiovascular telemetry and designated stroke unit, was the first medical unit to which TCAB was spread at Lourdes. Baseline and ongoing measures are the same as those for 3 West: time and motion studies; satisfaction surveys completed by members of all disciplines; fall, pressure ulcer and adverse drug event rates; RN vacancy rate; staff turnover rate; patient satisfaction scores; and nursing hours per patient day. This unit also was selected as a demonstration unit for the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) TCAB project. The TCAB goals on this unit are to:áimprove patient and nursing satisfaction by increasing nurse-to-nurse communications to better facilitate patient care and improve patient outcomes; decrease time spent "hunting and gathering" materials and equipment; and create a more pleasant, comfortable and efficient working environment. Examples of innovations include, but are not limited to the following: nurse aide safety rounds and hiring a cardiac monitor technician (Safe and Reliable Care); daily multidisciplinary rounds and weekly "Time out for TCAB" sessions (Vitality and Teamwork); daily ôQuiet Timeö (Patient Centeredness); and phone in medication room along with relocation of supplies (Efficiency). áOutcomes achieved include, but are not limited to the following:á Fall rate less than 0.0060; pressure ulcer rate less than 0.0020; adverse drug event rate less than 0.0025; RN vacancy rate remaining at 0; voluntary staff turnover rate remaining at 0; and increased patient satisfaction.
