Sixty people who have had a colostomy are expected to participate in the study. Variables: The variables will include sexual activity, libido, arousal and orgasm, resolution, and medical history, and the control variables of age, Income, length of time since colostomy and marital intimacy. Method and Instruments: The instrument to be used for the study is the ALARM model developed by Anderson(1990) and modified by the researchers to meet the purposes of the study. The procedure to be used in this study consists of two phases: need assessment and development of program. Data collection which is in progress includes chart reviews, and interviews with the subjects using a structured questionnaire . Findings: The expected outcomes based on the findings of this study are summarized as follows: 1) Identification of sexual health issues for patients with a colostomy. 2) Development of an appropriate sexual counseling program for patients with a colostomy. Implications: The development of clinical guidelines that nurses can use to accurately assess sexual health issues and select appropriate sexual counseling for patients with a colostomy.
