OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this project was to develop an interdisciplinary learning opportunity for nursing education. BACKGROUND: Through a unique opportunity, one nurse educator was able to experience the role of cast member in a play about several emotionall challenged young women living in a community based residential setting. This experience evolved to a learning activity for students all four years of the nursing program. In addition to nursing students, various disciplines throughout the college asked to reflect on the play through interviews, structured papers and class discussion. METHOD and DESIGN: A quasi-experimental design was utilized for this project and included semi-structured quidelines to assist the student in a critical social thinking analysis of the play's message. Students responded through electronic journal submission about their reflection on play. RESULTS and CONCLUSION: In response to structed guidelines students described their impressions of the play from a critical social thinking. Several themes about the lived experience of vulnerable populations were identified in the responses from students across the disciplines. Recommendations for further use of this method are provided.
