[2nd International Nursing Research Conference for the World Academy of Nursing Science - Presentation] Objective: Dementia has become a prevalent issue for the aging Japanese population, and special approaches to care are required. The present study aimed to identify research topics regarding elderly people with dementia in Japan by conducting a literature search of touching care.
Methods: We conducted a literature search within Ichushi. Ichushi is the Japanese medical literature database maintained by the NPO Japan Medical Abstracts Society and comprises 6,300,000 articles from approximately 5000 journal titles using thesaurus vocabulary for indexing and retrieval. We used the following search terms: ?Dementia,? ?elderly,? ?touching? and retrieved 3 original articles from the last decade (1983-2010). We used text mining software ?Trend search? (FUJITSU) to map relational words and analyze relational line size and distance to determine the relationship strength.
Ethical considerations: We analyzed anonymous articles.
Results and conclusion: Articles pertaining to this topic are increasing each year. There were 3 articles on this topic, which suggests that insufficient research has been conducted in this field.
Mapping in Ichushi yielded three wedges: ?Nursing,? ?care? and ?make one's intention clear .? Our results based on the literature search of touching care suggest that Japan must address some issues with regard to elderly people with dementia.
