[2nd International Nursing Research Conference for the World Academy of Nursing Science - Presentation] Background and Purpose: Spinal cord injury (SCI) is one of the most disastrous injuries a person may experience. Following such injury, patients have to confront challenges including disability, psychological and social impacts. These complications will bother them the rest of their life. It is important to manage these well, in order to return to the normal life as soon as possible. Super-Link System Theory is a theory of SCI rehabilitation nursing. Through establishing the links system, empowering clients and their family in taking control of and managing their own care and future. With the advance of technology, digital multimedia has been widely used in the field of nursing. The purpose of this study was to apply Super-link System Theory to develop a home rehabilitation Video Compact Disc (VCD) in clients with SCI. Methods: This SCI home rehabilitation VCD is primarily based on the Super-Link System theory and related literature. The purposive sampling was employed. The total number of 12 rehabilitation practitioners and 11 clients with SCI participated in this study. Results: The SCI home rehabilitation VCD was developed, and there are three parts of the VCD, including introduction to SCI (32 minutes); establishment a super-link system (34 minutes), which includes five links, linking to clients, linking to family, linking to interdisciplinary team, linking to the discharge planner and linking to the community; and enhancement ability of daily living (44 minutes), through the experiences share of clients who are success in adaptation SCI. The VCD is 110 minutes altogether. It is a good way to enhance people's understanding of SCI through imitation learning from the VCD.
Conclusion: The SCI home rehabilitation VCD is a useful teaching program and instrument, and further evaluate its effect on promote ability of daily living of clients with SCI through intervention study.
