[2nd International Nursing Research Conference for the World Academy of Nursing Science - Presentation] This is report on the activity related to development of disaster nursing area. The educational program for Middle East and Asian Countries was developed by our experience and knowledge accumulated after Great Hanshin- Awaji earthquake. The program was conducted by cooperation with Japan International Cooperation Agency from 2008 to 2010. Participants came from China, Iran, Solomon Islands, and Thailand. The purpose of the program was to foster coordinators for disaster nursing. Six aims were that participants able to : ? explain disaster nursing including the importance of coordinators for disaster nursing, ? explain the role and the provision of medical care as well as the role of medical facilities at the response/relief stage of disaster, ? explain the role of nurses and nursing care at the stage of mid- and long- term after disasters, ? explain the role of nurses and nursing care at the stage of the preparedness for disasters, ? explain how to formulate programs for capacity building and how to disseminate disaster nursing, and ? obtain the knowledge and skills required for disaster nursing coordinators in the related organizations. Participants visited the WHO Kobe centre, Japanese Red Cross Society, Japanese Nursing Association, Hyogo Emergency Medical Center, and others to achieve the aims. During the programs, all participants developed their own action plan as to what the nurses should do when the disaster happened in their home country. Participants made self ? assessment by a checklist for core competency of disaster nursing with four rating grades developed by us. They rated for two or three before the training. After the training, they rated their level for three or four. After the program, participants got and disseminated the skill and knowledge about disaster nursing in their home country.
