21st INRC [Research Presentation] Purpose: The population of Vietnamese immigrant in Taiwan grows annually. Since year 2005, the Ministry of education participated actively in the education exchange program between Taiwan and Vietnam. As well as more Taiwanese investment flows into Vietnam. The contacts between Taiwan and Vietnam become closer and frequent. Therefore, it is essential to understand and study the similarities and differences in cultures between Taiwan and Vietnam; and to know which topics in nursing and culture wished the Vietnamese students to learn from Taiwan? What kind of difficulties will befall the Vietnamese students in different circumstances and how can they adapt themselves in such situation? Methods: In this study, we use the ethnography as the method of this research. The 1st Stage in Taiwan, we will arrange the focused interviews with semi-structured questions to the 8 graduated nursing students from the university in Vietnam, according to the sunrise model of Leininger. In the stage 2, we will visit the nursing department and hospitals in Vietnam and arrange the focused interview through interactive observation with non-structured questions and field research to the rector of medical university in Vietnam and director of nursing department, teachers and the 8 students of stage 1. Results: There are six points of similarities in nursing between Taiwan and Vietnam; and 12 points of differences. The 8 Vietnamese students wished to learn the enthusiasm and sympathy which the Taiwanese nursing teachers manifested to the students and patients. Conclusion: A new milestone will be created in the trend of nursing education exchange, which can help us in reflection and self-growth, clinically providing a cultural competent nursing care; and as policy in future promoting more Vietnamese nursing students coming to Taiwan for advanced studies.
