21st INRC [Research Presentation] Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe the experiences of physical activities in patient with implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD). Methods: This qualitative study explored the experiences of physical activity of 14 adults with ICD using face-to-face, semi-structured interviews. Transcripts were analyzed using the method of constant comparison. Results: Fourteen patients with ICD (5 women, 9 men) between the ages of 28 to 65 years (mean 46.6 years). Four themes and 12 categories were identified: the physical and psychological reactions before ICD implantation, included: life changes, physiological signs and symptoms; the experiences and feeling of ICD shocks, included: situational-induced ICD fire, bodily feelings and psychological impacts; the impacts of physical activity after ICD implantation, include: self concern, reduction in leisure activities, families concern, adjust the intensity and project of activities; living with ICD., include: feel the meaning of ICD, seek independent, self-care of reducing the onset, accepting the limitations and restructuring. Conclusion: Implantable cardioverter defibrillator recipients face a complex situation in many ways, the impacts of physical activities are rare proposed, these finding provide the clinical practices are able to explain to future patients what they can expect after ICD implantation. The predictors of ICD fire need to be researched further and the exercise prescription of patient with ICD should be established.
