[Research Paper or Poster Presentation] Clinical practice provides the opportunity for students to become skilful through implementing theoretical knowledge into practical situation. It contributes to the socialization of nursing students into professional role. Preceptor ship model has gained popularity in clinical nursing education. However, it is a new concept in Pakistan as no school of nursing is utilizing it in RN Diploma program in Pakistan; whereas in BScN and Post RN programs, this model has been widely used at AKUSON. Preceptor ship may be defined as ôan individual teaching/ learning method in which each student is assigned to a particular preceptor so the nursing student can experience day to day practice with a role model and resource person immediately available with in clinical settingö. (Chickerella & Lutz, 1981) In this model, a staff nurse functions with a nursing student and has one to one ratio for a specified time in the clinical setting. In nursing, the transition from student to newly qualified nurses is recognized as being very stressful. (Gerrish, 2000). Students need support and preparation for their novice role. Preceptor ship model have primarily been used for senior nursing students, graduates students to help them to prepare for advanced- practice roles, and new staff orientation. (Myrick, 1991). This study was the first of its nature to be conducted in Pakistan. The proposed study will explore the students' view and perception on preceptor ship model in senior elective course of BScN program at Aga Khan School of Nursing. This study will be a population based, descriptive study. This study has the potential to have positive impact on the nursing curricula and specifically in the quality clinical practice. NOTE: This study is in progress.
