As the prevalence of obesity in children increases at an alarming rate, serious short- and long-term consequences are emerging. To combat this childhood epidemic, a community partnership was established between the Nemours Health Prevention Services, an Early Learning Center, and an interdisciplinary team from the University of Delaware.  The goals of the partnership were to develop, implement and evaluate evidenced-based prevention-focused strategies to prevent obesity in children ages infant through 5 years.  Plans involve piloting the strategies at the Early Learning Center, followed by implementation in child care centers across the state of Delaware. This presentation focuses on the challenges and obstacles this community collaboration, confronting the childhood obesity epidemic, encountered and successfully resolved.  Specifically, the issues:  leadership, scope of project, resource allocation, and contractual rights to intellectual property developed were presented.  Implications for nurse researchers participating in community collaborations were discussed.
