This presentation provides the historical context for the collaboration between Pace University Lienhard School of Nursing (LSN) and the Visiting Nurse Service of New York (VNSNY). The LSN is celebrating its 40th year educating undergraduate and graduate students in Westchester, NY and New York City. Over the years our students have been placed for clinical practice experiences in the various sites where the VNSNY operates. This had been the typical relationship between schools and their clinical affiliates. Changes in health care prompted the School to embark on curriculum change in the late 1990s to become more community-focused, and with this change came the need to further develop partnerships with community-based agencies. The VNSNY was a natural fit because of its mission and receptivity. Coincidentally, a new faculty member was hired to LSN from the ranks of the VNSNY research unit, which served to solidify the foundation for the close affiliation that we currently have. Further collaboration around the funded evidence-based practice project followed and has greatly strengthened our partnership. In addition, future collaborative efforts are underway, including strategies to address the difficult faculty shortage that we are experiencing. These were shared in the symposium.
