With an emphasis on healthcare quality and cost as well as an era in which there is an acute nursing shortage, there has never been a more urgent need to advance evidence-based practice (EBP) in order to improve patient outcomes as well as increase nurse satisfaction and retention. This paper will describe the development and launching of an innovative EBP model in acute care and community care settings entitled ARCC (Advancing Research and Clinical practice through close Collaboration), which is based on EBP principles. Challenges and successes in ongoing implementation of the ARCC model over a three year time period will be discussed as well as strategies used to overcome difficulties with implementation. Resources required to implement the model as well as its impact on outcomes will be highlighted.
