The NINR funded Center for the Advancement of Health Disparities Research is a partnership between the University of Washington School of Nursing as the majority institution and the University of Hawaii at Manoa as the minority institution. The goal of the Center's research is to reduce health disparities in Asian/Pacific Islander and other minority populations. The conceptual model for the Center depicts both variables of interest contributing to health disparities and also methodological considerations for conducting appropriate and sensitive research with vulnerable populations. The three Center funded pilot studies to be presented in this symposium represent the Center's goal and focus. Findings from these pilot investigations will contribute to the knowledge base on health disparities and also lead to further larger scale studies
