Abstract:
Impact of Genetics on the Nursing Discipline: Three Domains of Nursing Research
Conference Sponsor:Midwest Nursing Research Society

Contact Address:CON, Room 484 NB, Iowa City, IA, 52242, USA
New and evolving genetic technologies raise new questions for the nursing discipline as well as provide new tools to explore critical research questions. The purpose of this presentation is to overview the impact of genetics and genetic technologies on professional nursing. The impact of genetics on nursing science will be explored within the context of three domains: 1) the genetic basis of health phenomena, 2) human responses to genetic information, and 3) the development and evaluation of genetic or genotype-driven nursing interventions. Knowledge gaps, potential research questions, and selected methodologies and/or technologies will be discussed within each domain. Rigorous research within each domain by nurse scientists will be essential for the promise of genome-based health care to be fully realized. AN: MN030195
