The purpose of this study was to explore what paricular types of information were important to women diagnosed with breast cancer. The informational needs of these patients were measured by the structured Informational Needs Assessment instrument, which was developed by the investigator. The findings showed that six kinds of information needs in rank arose: the signs and symptions of recurrence, the possibility of recurrence, the possibility of metastasis, treatment, healthy diet and physical activities in daily living. However, the information on breast reconstruction surgery was ranked the lowest. Level of education was not related to level of informational needs. Yonger women rather than old women had a greater needs for seeking information(r=-.471, p<.01). And There was a significnat negative relationship between duration of disease and the score of information needs(r=-.32, p<.05).These finding have an implication that the oppurtunity to ask questions and the accurate information on the recurrence of breast cancer should be provided to women with breast cancer.
