To facilitate freshmen students' transition to college, a student services team comprised of the director and academic advisors collaborated to develop an orientation course which aimed to improve retention and to keep qualified students in nursing. A key element of the course is to teach the new students successful decision-making strategies in regards to time management, study skills, leadership development and professional networking. The authors describe the organization, planning and delivery of the course and its outcomes.
