Abstract:
Poster presented at AORN's 58th Annual Congress: Purpose: The objective of this initiative is to improve patient flow. A team or huddle made up of the chief CRNA, perianesthesia coordinator, perioperative coordinator, lead scheduler, clinical manager, sterile processing coordinator, and surgical director meet daily to review the next day's schedule. The following week's schedule is reviewed every Monday. Issues discussed are case order, equipment, supply needs, patient arrival times, patient requests, patient conditions that could affect flow (allergies, medical issues), and staffing concerns. This collaborative effort allows for concerns to be addressed prior to the day of surgery. Outcomes: By reviewing patient conditions, allergies, equipment, and supplies we have improved our patient flow and therefore have better patient and physician satisfaction. Operating room utilization has improved along with decreased turnover times.
