Abstract:
Abstract presented at AORN's 58th Annual Congress: In 2007, the BIDMC Board of Directors stated a goal of eliminating all preventable patient harm by 2012. All of these efforts have required strong nursing and hospital leadership plus robust collaborative relationships among clinicians. Our Chief Nursing Officer and the nurse leader who directs Patient Safety will describe our progress and challenge. We will describe our organizational structure and how hospital leadership and clinical leadership is positioned to help lead the initiatives to reduce ham. We will describe processes of defining harm and preventability, identifying sources of patient harm, assuring robust reporting and developing performance improvements to decrease harm. Finally we will discuss how our leadership team shares these results with patients and staff.
