Title:
Development of a Hospital Based RNFA Service Line
Author(s):
Schwartz, Shelley
Author Details:
Shelley D. Schwartz, BSN, RN, CNOR, Aria Health, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA, email: shesha51@aol.com
Abstract:
Poster presented at AORN's 58th Annual Congress: Creating a hospital-based RNFA service line in a hospital that has not been exposed to the benefits of RNFAs is a challenge. Hospital-based RNFAs are not eligible for third party reimbursement as with other first assistant groups; consequently, the focus cannot be financial incentive to the organization but must be justified via other foci. This challenge includes creatively finding answers utilizing the following modalities: networking, marketing, professional organizations (AORN and RNFA blogs), market analysis, ROI, SWOT analysis, educating your consumers, and recognizing and directing your vision towards what the strategic plan of your organization is, making it their vision as well. Perseverance is key; even a baby step forward is a step closer to your goal. Outcomes include patient satisfaction, physician satisfaction, and job satisfaction for you, your surgical colleagues, and your perioperative colleagues, as well.
