Abstract:
Podium presentation, ANCC National Magnet Conference: Building academic-service partnerships for research and evidence based practice has synergistic benefits for both partners. The purpose of this presentation is to outline the process of building a partnership between a college of nursing at a Midwestern land-grant university and nursing services at a regional tertiary acute care hospital. Components of the partnership include revitalizing a nursing research committee, facilitating organizational approval for nursing research, selecting a model for evidence based practice and building skills in searching the literature, research critique, using the research process and dissemination of findings. The roles of both academic and service leaders in the conceptualization, initiation and continuation of the partnership will be presented. First year processes and outcomes will be described and three-year goals will be shared. Mutual benefits of the partnership will be outlined.
