Abstract:
This presentation discusses the planning, implementation and progress of a Center for Nursing Research at a Magnet hospital. In 2003 the CNO, directors of nursing, and clinical nurses had a vision to create a Center for Nursing Research to help clinical nurses become involved in research and evidence based practice (EBP). From this vision a job description was written for a Program Director for Nursing Research. This presentation will describe the hiring of the Program Director, how the Center has grown from 1 employee to 3, and what services are offered by the Center. Additionally, this presentation will describe how the Center has involved nurses in EBP and research, provided education to nurses and other disciplines, been involved in national research studies, and obtained funding. Specific examples of EBP and research projects will be highlighted as well as the planning and implementation of a nursing research council within the Shared Governance structure.
