Pathway to Publication
Abstract:
(41st Biennial Convention) This poster/presentation describes a collaborative partnership among a workforce and community services division at a community college, an education department at a large regional magnet hospital network, and a nursing faculty member. Academics are uniquely poised to share their skills in research and writing for publication with their colleagues in service. Nursing professors should look for opportunities to partner with those who can match them with health professionals who can benefit from their unique knowledge and expertise. An 8 hour workshop was prepared, based on specific identified needs identified by the client. Objectives It is important to develop specific measurable objectives for workshop participants. •  Describe expectations for health professional related to • publishing •  Examine one’s own work or practice for publishable projects and • topics • kIdentify and practice elements of different types of professional • writing •  Match one’s own publishable topics to one or more of the above • types or professional writing •  Formulate personal values , goals and objectives related to a • publishing careerIdentify specific skills and attitudes needed for a successful • publishing career •  Identify and begin to develop necessary skills for professional • writing •  Recognize potential barriers to a publishing career •  Identify and practice specific tasks involved in writing for • publication •  Understand and successfully manage the steps in the process of • writing for publication •  Identify strategies to deal with potential roadblocks to a • successful publishing career •  Understand the process of collaborative writing projects • Describe internet tools to support research and collaboration Health professionals have a moral imperative to: communicate with other professionals and diss eminate information, to question the "staus quo", to share knowledge to improve policy, practice and outcomes, to facilitate self and public scrutiny of their discipline, to foster accountability and responsibility, and to promote the development of the discipline. Nursing professors can help other health professionals reach thes e goals by seeking or developing opportunities to share their skills and knowledge related to wr iting for publication.
