Abstract:

Session presented on: Friday, July 26, 2013

The confluence of globalization, changing social values, shifting patient and provider’s demographics and an evolving healthcare delivery system, in addition to new delivery models and reimbursement structures presents a daunting challenge for leaders across healthcare organizations.  This situation creates a unique opportunity for nurse leaders to make a positive difference, given the increased recognition of nurses as key members of the inter-disciplinary care team. Leaders’ ability to synergize talents within and across disciplines and among diverse members of their organization has never been more important. Successful leaders including nursing executives must find new ways to mitigate the crisis-like healthcare environment. Strategic inclusion, confident humility and gracious space served as enablers of high performance, supporting leaders to leverage the total capacity of their diverse workforce. The current healthcare environment and foreseeable future demands leaders who are empowering and transformational. Only leaders who are visionary, inclusive, globally aware, and capable of effectively leading a diverse and knowledgeable workforce among other variables will be successful.  The structure and process utilized to successfully institute strategic inclusion for the organization and the outcomes will be shared with program participants.
