Over the past several years, students and faculty at a small Midwestern college of nursing have had the opportunity to collaborate with staff at a rural Magnet hospital on a variety of projects.  Through these efforts, patient care has been enhanced and on-going collaborative relationships with staff throughout the institution have been forged.

What once began as "change projects" for senior leadership students has now transformed into unique and exciting ongoing collaborative efforts between staff and the college of nursing.  The successful outcomes of these projects has positively impacted the way these two entities work together to effect patient care.  They have helped to nurture and change the way those in practice and education view one another.  They have allowed those in education to better guide and direct new practitioners, while those in practice have come to value and appreciate the talents of those in the academic setting.

The excitement and creativity of students, the support of faculty and the eagerness of staff to continually strive to improve patient outcomes has led to a wonderfully successful collaboration and many unique projects.  All of these projects are based on research and evidence which has prompted their success - especially for our patients!
