Mississippi University for Women College of Nursing and Speech Language Pathology MSN Projects0
In 1971, the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning (IHL) approved the School of Nursing. Initially, the ladder concept was used to organize the curriculum. After completing an associate degree and successfully passing state boards, students could pursue an upper division program leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Thirteen students were admitted to the upper division program in 1973. In the fall of 1974 the ladder concept was replaced with a generic-based baccalaureate program. The first BSN class members were MUW ASN graduates. That changed to include transfer students when the two generic (ASN and BSN) programs began. The School of Nursing has continued to meet the needs of the surrounding communities.
